Questions About Starting A Fraternity
How would a
local Fraternity usually start?
Usually after some exposure to the Fraternity of Priests
a group of priests from a certain area would contact the Fraternity to
set up a Fraternity Conference. This is a 4-day retreat where the life
and ideals of the Fraternity are set forth. At the end of the retreat
brothers are invited to make a commitment to a local Fraternity. However,
in some circumstances a Conference may not be able to be set up right
away but you may still start to meet and begin living out the life and
commitments of the Fraternity. This brochure is written for those who
find themselves in that situation.
What would
happen at a normal meeting?
There are 4 aspects that happen at each meeting.
First, we spend time together as brothers relating with one another
in a social environment. Sometimes this is done over a meal or simply
in spending time with one another. Second, we spend time in praise and
worship. It is important that we support one another in prayer and give
the Lord time to speak to us.
Third, we have a time of teaching and formation.
We want to always grow in holiness so often the teaching will touch
upon our spiritual life or areas of ministry or common concerns of the
brothers. There are certain standard teachings that form our life together
as well as teachings and discussions that would concern the brothers
in a local situation. Fourth, we seek to share our lives with one another
for mutual support and commitment. Whenever we meet brothers are offered
the opportunity to share the joys and sorrows of life as we seek to
support one another.
How often does a Fraternity Meet?
If the brothers live close enough they may meet
weekly for a few hours. In areas where the brothers live farther apart
they may meet monthly but for a longer period of time. It is adaptable
to the local situation.
What would The Fraternity of Priests provide
for us?
The Fraternity would try to support your life together
as much as possible. In addition to providing teachings you would have
a contact for any questions that would arise and who would work with
you to see how the Fraternity could work in your local area. Ideally
there would be a Fraternity Conference that could be scheduled that
could serve to introduce the life to the priests who would be interested.
Where do we go from here?
If there are a group of priests who are already
meeting together or would like to start meeting who are interested in
the life of the Fraternity please contact us at the address or phone
number at the end of this brochure. You will be contacted soon to see
how we can work together for the building up of the priesthood.
We hope that this has provided answers to questions
that might have arisen in your local situation. There are other brochures
that explain the life of the Fraternity and about the Fraternity Conference.
They may be obtained by contacting us at the address and phone numbers
